Building High performing teams
Behind high-performing teams lies a story of commitment. Like any real team, a high-performing team would have a group of people with the required skills, purpose, goals, approach and accountability. What sets apart high-performing teams however, is the degree of commitment, particularly how deeply committed the members are to one another. Such commitments go well beyond civility and superficial behaviours of teamwork. Each member in the team genuinely helps the others to achieve both personal and professional goals. Furthermore, such commitments extend beyond company activities and even beyond the life of the team itself.
High performing teams are rare and difficult to build, and even more difficult to sustain. However, once the 'process' of building teams is understood, then the teams are on the path of becoming 'autonomous' and high-performing. This is our challenge and our endeavour.
Towards this, teams are put through experiences which help them understand how they work; learn to co-create an environment that nurtures and values different roles, diversity and different contributions of team members. Teams then focus their abilities and energies in deep listening, generating options, giving feedback to one another, building on each other's ideas, assessing the risks and using their personal authority towards achieving the team goals. |
